Executive Artistic Director


Garland is an award-winning poet, actor, playwright, stage designer, filmmaker, producer, director, and stagehand, whose life has been dedicated to entertainment, Theatre, and the American Black Theatre in particular. He’s produced readings, plays, films, and run popular open mics and poetry slams, and is thrilled to be a continued part of this legendary nonprofit institution now headquartered in Brooklyn.

Special Advisor to the Executive Director 


 As Special Advisor to the Executive Director, Shari will bring donor engagement and nonprofit know-how to FSWW. She has spent the bulk of her career raising money and producing events and unique experiences for donors and public audiences at National Public Radio (NPR). As Executive Director of Donor Experience, she brought conversations and musical performances to the stage to inspire individual and foundation funding from across the country.

Reading Series Coordinator


A native of the Dominican Republic, Rafael is the founder, and Artistic Director of Construct Theatre, He has been with The Workshop since September 2018 coordinating our play reading and critique sessions. He's a playwright whose play FOTOS was read at FSWW. Receiving an enthusiastic reception, the play is a generational tale of a father, and photo store owner, and his three sons as they navigate what legacy means, and what lies in store for them, and the small business their father created.

Alicia began her artistic career as a performer on stage, working with the Afrikan Women’s Repertory, the Ujamaa Black Theater and at Theater for the New City to name a few. Over the years, she began to put pen to paper, and to date, Alicia has produced several full-length stage plays, readings and short plays for festivals. Plus workshops at commercial theaters and nonprofit 501c3 organizations, cultivating relationships with community based organizations from Harlem to Brooklyn.
